Asia Cup, regarded as the pioneer multi-nation cricket tournament, comprising Asian countries will see its 16th edition take place in Pakistan in the second half of 2023. As per the future tour program (FTP), released by the ICC, it was decided that this time, Pakistan will be the sole organizer of the tournament.

Asia Cup 2023 Format

The Asia Cup 2023 will be a 50-over format. 13 matches will take place. The top 5 teams India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan have already qualified for the main event. The 6th team will be decided from the Asia Cup 2023 qualifying round. It will be in a round-robin format, with each team playing against other teams once in the group stage, which will be followed by the super 4 round.

Asia Cup 2023 Hosting Controversy

Although the Asian Cricket Council announced Pakistan as the host country for the Asia Cup 2023, it seems that the tournament will be shifted to a neutral venue. The BCCI secretary Jay Shah has openly said that India won’t travel to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup, considering the not-so-good political condition between these two nations.

We all know that BCCI has the lion’s share in the revenue of ICC. So, if India won’t participate in the Asia Cup, then the tournament has no meaning. So, there may be a situation that ACC shifts the tournament to UAE or Sri Lanka so that both India and Pakistan can participate in the event
