Timeless 20% Vitamin C + E Ferulic Acid Serum Review

5.0 out of 5 stars This is In My TOP Five of Serums that Delivers Results!
Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2016

This is a such a great serum that works that much better than the rest of them. I have repeatedly purchased this product. It is comparable to the C E Ferulic, Vitamin C Serum, by SkinCeuticals. The Skincueticals serum costs well over $100. This serum is basically the same thing for tons less money. I am skincare obsessed and have tried out many different 'potions' as my husband calls these serums and creams. And, I find that each one I've tried gives me some sort of result usually even if it's just simply moisturizing my skin. But, if I had to pick a top 5 serums that promote the best results, this Vitamin C Plus E, Ferulic by Timeless Skincare would definitely be in there. This will help and has helped me to slough old skin cells to make brighter skin appear. It also helps to keep acne away and has lightened some of the dark spots or freckles from the sun on my face. My skin looks smoother overall. I've spent alot of time in the sun during my whole life, always living in the south, and now in Florida. Any younger people reading this in your teens and twenties you must take care of your skin now if you want to avoid wrinkles and sunspots as much as possible when you get older. I started using sunscreen religiously in my 30's but because I did not before then, I'm paying the price now. But, whatever your age, if you already have signs of aging from the sun like wrinkles and sunspots, this serum and the ingredients in it are some of the best to combat those issues. Serums can only do so much but if you do nothing you will get nothing. So, this serum and sunscreen together is your best bet. Repeat buyer here, love this product! My other Top Five products if interested are:1. Donell AHA 20 Face and Body Care, (strong for the face, has 20% Glycolic Acid, but excellent cream/serum)2. Alpha Skin Care Enhanced Renewal Cream with 12% Glycolic AHA, fragrance-free and paraben-free, 2 oz. (Reviewed this one here on Amazon as well, has a lower concentration of Glycolic at 12% but still a great product)3. Reviva Labs Brown Spot Night Cream with Kojic Acid -- 1 oz4. Hyularonic Acid, (I use many different brands, just make sure it's mainly Hyaluronic acid and shows that as one of the first ingredients)Retin A is another favorite that is proven to work for wrinkles, spots, evening out skin texture, etc. But, it requires a prescription and caution with use.

(update Sept 2015: continue to use this and have tried competitor products, it works and I am quite old! but skin looking good!)

Reputable dermatologists say there are only a few active ingredients out there that are proven to do anything beneficial for the skin besides moisturize it (which Crisco or vaseline could do too!) , no matter what hype the cosmetic companies put out. One of those is vitamin C.

(Caution: don't use a Vit C product at the same time as Retinols (Retin A or OTC Retinol products like Roc etc), or Glycolic acids, or beta acids (salicylic etc). Use the Vit C in the a.m. and the others in the PM, sometimes even that will be too irritating for some skins. At the least put a few hours between applications of acidic products!).

I heard about this product first on a skin care forum I belong to, as I am a sort of hobby aesthetician and makeup artist and always looking for something to help my own aging skin. I use a derma roller (many brands and most are about the same, needle size is the key difference), and this product used in concert with it really has helped stimulate collagen (the disappearance which is what causes skin to look 'aged' , when the padding beneath the surface begins to degrade and so the skin hangs like an empty balloon).

I have been using it off and on for several months, and also got some for sisters and friends. In everyone's case I have seen an improvement in skin tone, and definitely a subtle 'plumping' effect. It's not a miraculous overnight remedy, (nothing like that exists in a bottle!), but it does help over time, and you'll see some difference within a couple weeks.

Also important is that the manufacturer is using a DARK glass bottle. First because Vitamin C breaks down with exposure to light, and also because if it were plastic container, the acidity would cause some leaching of plastic byproducts into the gel.

The viscous feeling of this product is due to the hyaluronic acid in it. Hyaluronic acid is the same substance (but in sterile form and at a different molecular density), that is in fillers like restylane, and that also occurs naturally in the human body. It can't really penetrate below the dermis, but with the derma rolling process, I believe a little of it can make its way in, and that it aids in plumping effect.

A great value and reputable supplier. The reality is these active ingredients wholesale at a minimal cost, and the big brand names are marking them up by ridiculous amounts and creating elaborate marketing campaigns and photoshopped images of 22 year old models, and many consumers fall for the hype and believe the cost is justified; and while this product isn't 'cheap', it is moderately priced compared to department store brands, and it lasts a good while as you only need a few drops each time.

I also have recommended for those starting a skin improvement regimen to take a few good before and after pictures (spaced a few months apart at least, then periodically) or have a friend do so. Then you can apply 'high def' photographic effects to the before and afters shots, which will reveal the damaged skin that the naked eye can't detect, and subsequent improvement (or lack thereof!), in great (often disturbing! detail).

(There are free programs online that can do this(ipiccy is one), or if you use photoshop etc, that allow you to increase detail in your skin - usually called something like 'high def', 'gritty' etc). Department store makeup counters used to have these boxes with special lights and mirror that you'd put your face in and would reveal the sun damage that is not apparent to the naked eye - using as a selling tool-- this HDR effect does the same basic thing - reveal what the naked eye can't see but which IS there!

The proof was there for me that my skin was looking better, less damaged. In my case the derma roller was part of it, but this product was also key.

My serum arrived in a yellow plastic pump bottle. No issues with expiry dates as mentioned in some other reviews. Serum itself is clear and very watery - and smells a bit like 'hot dog water'. However, I put 2 pumps in my palm, rub my hands together and use both hands to smooth over my face and neck. I also divide a pump between the backs of my hands.
I've been using daily (for the most part) since mid-June and have noticed an evening out of skin tone - and most importantly - my sun spots are fading.
I use in the morning, after this serum has absorbed I put on my spf daily moisturizer. No problems with irritation or anything like that.

I had to replace my order as I had received an expired product at first (exp date 2021). I initially thought it could be a packaging defect and opened the bottle only to see that the serum was completely brown and oxidized.
The odor is manageable and the serum is quite watery and easily applied. It is a small opaque bottle so its easy to store and keep away from sunlight.

Vitamin C. EVERY skincare brand has a Vitamin C serum they’re hawking. Most of them are crap. Vitamin C is incredibly tricky to get right in skincare. It has to be the right kind of Vitamin C, and depending on which TYPE of Vitamin C it is…...it has to have certain things included in the serum in order for it to absorb INTO your skin to do the stuff you want it to do. So who does it right and in the easiest way to use?? Well, it used to be Skinceuticals at over $150 for 1.8 oz., for me. NOT ANYMORE!!!

Timeless gets ALL of it right, and they don’t charge you an arm and a leg for it. So here’s what this serum gets right, that sooooo many others get wrong. First of all, the type of Vit C. This is L-ascorbic acid. Now there are different types of Vit C, but if we’re talking serum, then we’re talking the type of Vit C that is most easily absorbed into the skin topically, and for that you need L-ascorbic acid. But it HAS TO HAVE a couple things with it or that absorption doesn’t happen. Those two key ingredients are Vitamin E and Ferulic Acid. This serum combines all three in the proper concentrations to do EXACTLY what you want your Vitamin C to do. Penetrate deep enough into your skin to support collagen production and speed-up cell turnover.(new, bright, baby-butt soft, supple skin).

When I started using Timeless, I started out with ½ a pump in my morning skin care (the same amount I had been using of the Skinceuticals). I worked up from there. I now use 2 pumps, in my morning and night skincare routines. I use it on my face, neck, chest, and the backs of my hands (at this price, I feel like I can afford to be generous. And Vitamin C is the one thing your skin literally CAN”T have too much of.) My neck has been the location that has shown the biggest sensitivity to it, for some reason. After I cleanse, I use my prescription Retin A and the follow with my serums. This is the first of my serums that gets applied. It’s the one I want to tag along with my Retin A and penetrate deep into my skin.

The new packaging deals with the biggest problem Vitamin C poses, which is oxidation. This new airless pump means that your Vitamin C isn’t exposed to the air every time you use it, like it was when it was in a dropper. And the opaque bottle means that it’s not exposed to light either, which is the other thing that affects Vitamin C. Over time, your Vitamin C will oxidize and lose its potency and effectiveness. If it’s clear, light yellow, milky…..that’s fine. It’s when it becomes orangey/brownish that it’s showing signs of oxidation. ALSO, KEEP IT REFRIGERATED if you can. It not only prevents oxidation from occurring so quickly, it also feels amazing on your skin.

This formulation, in this packaging, now being offered on Subscribe & Save is just kind of a no-brainer…..at least, for me. Good skincare does NOT have to cost a fortune to be effective. Word of warning, don’t start slapping vast amounts on your face multiple times a day right out of the gate. Work up to it. This is a product most people need to acclimate to. And be committed to using it for the LONG HAUL. It’s not going to give amazing results overnight. Over time though, you’re gonna be really happy with the results…..and the compliments!!

I like this product, but it does leak and get messy. Since it leaks, it seems to attract gnats into the house. I'm going to buy another, but if it's the same, I guess I'll have to go back to the hella-expensive CEO serum.

4.0 out of 5 stars I separated the solution into two 1/2 ounce dropper bottles recommended by youtuber "Hot n Flashy" to prolong shelf life

Upon receiving them, I separated the solution into two 1/2 ounce dropper bottles recommended by youtuber "Hot n Flashy" to prolong shelf life. About after 3 weeks of using this and storing it in the fridge, the serum still seems to have not oxidized much as the colour is still really clear/light. Will review the before and after pics in a couple of weeks to see if this has done anything.

1.0 out of 5 stars Expired product delivered with no return policy. This is cheating

Reviewed in India on January 8, 2019

The product delivered (vitamin C serum) whose basic component is L Ascorbic Acid is a very old product and the serum is completely oxidizes which is a proof that it is a very old product. Ask any skin expert they will tell u that oxidized vitamin c will be yellow or dark yellow or brown...mine is dark yellow... Fresh vitamin c or L Ascorbic acid will be colourless.. which means the sticker stuck on the package hiding the actual manufacturing date is false.

1.0 out of 5 stars Expired! Dropper broken!

AVOID! Most products are expired. It should always come CLEAR and not cloudy turning yellow. It's good when it works, but because it has a short shelf life, the product you will receive could be a hit or miss.

2.0 out of 5 stars I'm so not enjoying this 😢

Reviewed in Canada on January 3, 2021

I'm so confused about this product. I want to like it, but I have so much trouble using it. When I press on the pump it surprises me every time because it squirts and some always spills into the sink or in my eyes. Each time I use it I'm very nervous before I press the pump, and try to press it very slowly. So I tried putting it in the palms of my hands because if I use my fingers it just runs through it, but now I have to take it from my palms with my other hand and quickly try to add it to my face with the other hand. I think so far I've wasted most of the product and it's hard to say if it's working because I'm too busy fighting with it. I was wondering if it would be better with dropper..although I know there's a reasoning for the pump. I've used other vitamin C serums before and was always happy but I bought this one because of the reviews and I wanted to try something different. I doubt very much I would buy it again though, it's too much trouble. Skin care should be a joy not a hassle!

5.0 out of 5 stars My holy grail

Reviewed in Canada on February 25, 2019

This stuff works, and I'll never go without it. At the end of 2018 I ran out and didn't repurchase because I was crazy-low on funds and skincare took a backseat to paying the bills. When I had a bit of cash I bought this and my skin is so happy. I haven't noticed any difference in my skin's tone (likely because the sun damage is too deep for a topical product to affect) but the texture of my skin is amazing. I never had major bumps/pits/scars, but like most people I had some tiny bumps. This stuff made them disappear, and it's the only product that's changed in my routine in years.
I use it every night after cleansing and before moisturizing (I wait a couple of minutes before moisturizing to let this stuff soak in). It's my holy grail, and I love it.

Is timeless vitamin C serum good for oily skin?

Timeless Skin Care's Hyaluronic Acid + Vitamin C Serum is a water-based serum that is appropriate for oily skin. With a gentle derivative of Vitamin C called magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, it's one of the best hyaluronic acid serums for oily or sensitive skin.

What does CE Ferulic serum do?

In addition to antioxidant protective benefits, C E Ferulic improves signs of aging and photodamage, the appearance of lines and wrinkles, and the loss of firmness, while brightening skin's complexion.

How long is timeless vitamin C serum good for?

We can assure you that the serum is still safe to use. Expiration is approximately 3 months without refrigeration and 5 months with refrigeration from purchase date, opened or unopened. Refrigeration is recommended, as mentioned on the box, to extend the shelf life of the serum and slow down the process of oxidation.

What is better than CE Ferulic?

While C E Ferulic is the ideal topical antioxidant for fine lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness and skin brightening in normal, dry and sensitive skin types, Phloretin CF may be a better choice for normal, oily and combination skin experiencing discoloration along with visible signs of aging.
