The program can t start because api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0 DLL is missing from your computer

Firstly, does the file actually exist on your win 7 machine?

I vaguely remember getting this with a win 8 preview ISO, and if memory serve's thats what this file is for and only that.

Now if you are 100% certain the file is on the system affected do the following.

Click on start, hold CTRL+ Shift and click on run (This will give you admin elevated run box)

Enter the following command :

regsvr32 /u api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll

Rerun the elevated run box and enter the following :

regsvr32 /i api-ms-win-core-path-l1-1-0.dll

if you arent certain you have the file, I would recommend doing a full scan to fix it - open command prompt with elevated priv's. and type SFC /scannow  - this will will a while (its system file checker) follow the on screen instructions to resolve each issue.

Finally if that doesnt work, try tracing back to when the error started, what software was installed just before it started - chances are that will be your culprit.

Whatever you do , do NOT download this file from any of the so called DLL sites - Ive seen it happen so many times and cause so many problems as they are not legitimate DLL's.

Also something to think about - try creating a new user profile, see if the error occurs on that, if not it gives you another angle to look at as it could be a corrupt profile.

Sorry things are vague about could and maybe's, but with a missing DLL its difficult to narrow down exactly where its come from, whats calling it, and what its trying to do.

Hi,

What is the exact error message?

Method 1:

Perform an SFC scan on your computer. Refer to the following link:

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 2:

Create a new User Account and check if you experience the same issue.

Create a user account

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-user-account

If the issue doesn’t persist with the new user account, then we need to fix the corrupted user account. Refer to the following article to do the same:

Fix a corrupted user profile

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile

Hope this helps.

I'm having the exact same problem but with one user.  The file is not on the PC.  In my case it seems to happen when Internet Explorer is started.

I just figured out what the issues was!!!!!!! It's the Lync Add-On in IE. If you disable the add-on the error stops.  Craig Let me know if it works for you

I know it's been a little while, but I did see your message.  In IE there happened to be an Enabled Lync addon.  We're disabling and we'll know in a few days if the problem reoccurs.  Thanks!!

Yes, thank you, that worked for me too! This happened after I upgraded from Office 2013 ProPlus to Office 2016 ProPlus.  In IE Internet Options, Manage Add-Ons, I disabled Lync Click to Call and Lync Browser Helper.  Afterwards, IE didn't display the message anymore.

Thanks. Seems to have fixed my problem, too. I don't want to use Lync to Call anyway....

I'm having the same issue. Unfortunately the Lync add-on was already disabled and this issue is holding me back from completing an SAP GUI update. Thanks for the tip though.
