How do I download and install InDesign on a Mac?

The InDesign Plugin enables you to drag and drop images directly from your browser window into InDesign Creative Cloud documents. Images are stored in the cloud so they do not need to be downloaded to your PC and the plugin maintains image links so that they do not break.

Version 2.4.0 of the InDesign Plugin onwards offers in-app notifications when a more recent version of the plugin becomes available.

The OpenAsset plugin is compatible with Adobe InDesign CC 2018 onwards. To install the plugin, download the relevant file using the links below and follow the on-screen instructions.

• macOS: Plugin v 2.5.5

• Windows: Plugin v 2.5.5

Note: Once the plugin is installed, it must be turned on in order for you to make use of it. To do so, select 'Window' > 'Extensions' > 'OpenAsset' from the InDesign menu.

If You Have Previously Installed the Plugin Via Adobe Exchange

If the plugin was previously installed using the Adobe Exchange site, it is necessary for this version to be uninstalled before the current version can be installed. Once you have uninstalled the plugin, the CC app needs to sync after an uninstallation so that it removes the CC install folder.

For PCs this folder can be found in the following location:

• C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP\extensions\com.axomic.openassetforindesign.extension

For Macs, use the following location:

• /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions

You may need to copy and paste this path directly into the 'Go To Folder' option under 'Go' when you have Finder open.

If the CC app has synced and you are still seeing this folder, or if the sync is taking some time, you can simply delete this folder and you should be able to install the latest version without errors.

Installation instructions

Remember to close InDesign before installing. Having downloaded the plugin file, follow the steps below.

1. Open the InDesign plugin installer.

2. Select the correct disk to save the plugin to.

3. Enter your password or use the Touch ID facility.

4. Close the installer.

Once installed, the plugin will automatically receive updates from OpenAsset.

When you launch InDesign, the OpenAsset plugin will be visible in the panel, where you will see the updated version number.

Network Installation

You can install the plugin over your network using the MSI provided in the above links and pushing the installation out via Group Policy.
