Overview

CK One Shock for Him is a spicy aromatic oriental men’s fragrance released to much fanfare by the American fashion designer Calvin Klein in the year 2011. This is a follow up to the unisex smash hit CK One released two decades prior. This time, they split up the men’s and women’s offering and literally spiced it up a bit. The nose behind this concoction is Ann Gottlieb and it is available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette offerings.

The first shock you’ll get when you open CK One Shock is that the bottle shaped and sealed just like a hard beverage; yes, sealed screw-on lid and all. The atomizer and the bottle are not assembled when you buy. It was a first for me, unscrewing and assembling a brand new perfume bottle. It felt like I was putting together a model kit or something. True BYOB fashion by CK there. Then again they have been doing this since 1994 with the original CK One but I was a little 4th grader then so, yea. 🙂

The only problem is that there is no way to secure the atomizer once you have “installed” it. There is no lid nor stopper for it. The “Shock” is written in green spray paint font which screams for your attention on the shelf. Overall, it’s a very unique and memorable presentation

Juice (Scent Composition)

The listed notes on this one are clementine, cucumber, lavender, black pepper, basil, cardamom, tobacco, patchouli, musk, amber and a little bit of wood.

The most prominent notes according to my nose are the tobacco, patchouli, lavender, the amber and the cardamom.

There are several shocks here for me:

1: I’m shocked at how deep and complex this fragrance is especially considering that it’s an oriental fragrance which tend to be more on the simple linear side.

2: Despite the name, marketing, packaging, etc. it is not loud and bubble gummy, rather it’s a smooth, warm, refined oriental scent.

3: You get all of this for a bargain price.

The thoughts that are evoked when I smell it: “warm”, “fresh”, and “smooth.”

If I were to describe it in Layman’s terms, I would say that it smells like a cigar in a luscious green forest.

This scent is a banger to the core and a must have.

Performance

Performance on this one could be better but hey, no complaints when you factor in what you are paying for.

Projection: A bit on the weak side. Turns into a skin scent in short time (within an hour). At least it’s not harsh or offensive so heavy application to compensate for the poor projection shouldn’t be an issue. 4/10

Longevity: Longevity on this one is a bit better than the projection indicates. I get a good 5-6 hours out of it. You might want to reapply after that. 6/10

Impressions (Complement factor): Guys love it. Gals adore it. I tested this one to see what people thought of it and they were blown away. There are not many fragrances that smell like this. Unique yet inoffensive. 10/10
