"By the day" = Trên một ngày, mỗi ngày hoặc theo một tỉ lệ hằng ngày.

Lưu ý: Nếu muốn sử dụng "day to day" như một trạng ngữ, bạn không cần dùng gạch nối và viết đơn thuần là day to day. Cụm từ sẽ mang nghĩa theo từng ngày, tức là không có ngày nào giống ngày nào, mỗi ngày sẽ có một diễn biến khác.
