This family-friendly compact crossover is available with three powertrains including a plug-in hybrid model. PerformanceThe entry-level X3 xDrive30i is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder rated at 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and paired with an 8-speed automatic. For improved fuel efficiency, the X3 xDrive30e uses a plug-in hybrid powerplant consisting of a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder with with an electric motor and battery. Net system output is 288 hp, with the crossover able to travel 29 km on electric power alone. Those after a more engaging drive can bump up to the X3 M40i, which uses a turbocharged 3.0L inline six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to provide additional performance. This powertrain puts out 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. PracticalityThe interior impresses with a centre console featuring trim strips in black high-gloss and controls for the air conditioning system. Ensuring more comfort and intuitive operation are sport seats in perforated Sensatec and the 10.25-inch central information display, which can be upgraded to 12 inches.
