Will 2024 Subaru Forester be redesigned?

We’ve ordered a 2022 Subaru, but we’re debating if it’s worth waiting for 2024 for the redesign of the forester. I’m not too thrilled with the touchscreen for it being a 2022 and hoping they throw in the screen the current outback has.

What are your thoughts? Should I just take the car now or wait and see if Subaru has some revolutionary design in the works [doubt it] just really hoping for a screen and user face update.

That’s a long time to wait for something that is completely unknown/uncertain. Why not just keep your ‘22 and trade it in a few years if you decide to? Used car market will stay hot for awhile.

level 2

Yeah, I don't see the used car market cooling off anytime soon.

level 2

That’s valid, we might just end up doing that if it’s worth it. I really wanted to just buy something both of us are happy with and keep it until it’s last breath.

While my Forester was being serviced, they gave me a loaner Outback with the huge screen. I was completely underwhelmed by the bigger screen. The biggest annoyance was that the Google map screen while using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay was actually SMALLER than the display on my 8" screen. The map screen was no larger than my phone screen. And I would just prefer to have manual HVAC controls instead of being incorporated in the touchscreen.

level 2

That’s good to know, thanks for the heads up. Really weird how they don’t have a good operating system for these bigger screens. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about the HVAC controls not being manual, I might need to go test drive an outback to fully understand.

I heard a rumor the 2024 will have a hybrid model. I'm sort of waiting on that to see if I'll upgrade from my Impreza.

level 2

Aus has a hybrid model E-Boxer for the forester. Slightly better fuel economy, but the battery takes up space so no spare tyre.

Personally, I don't trust the first year of a "refresh/redesign" with all the stuff changing. I prefer the second year+ after they have had a chance to shake out the bugs. lol

level 2

That’s valid, the last thing I want is to keep going back to the dealership due to recall issues, but other than that, kind of excited to see what they do. If they even do something especially with all of these supply chain issues.

level 1

  1. Grabbing the first year model of a refresh is a bad idea

  2. By Subaru's normal cycle, 2024 should have a new forester but as far as I know that isn't set in stone. I would be a little bit surprised if they bothered creating the wilderness & updating some of the trims just to ditch the car in a year or two but that could be unfounded on my part.

  3. While the large screen is cool, the controls are still pretty cluttered and HVAC tablet controls are so awful imo. You might like the 8" screen in some of the Forester packages as I think that is a bit of a sweet spot but that's just my two cents.

  4. Test drive the new Santa Fe, you might enjoy that.

  5. If you can wait two years [and presumably save] is the Forester the end all be all? For me at least the 2022 Forester is right car right time right price. But theoretically if I wanted to save for another year or two I'd probably get something else.

Updates to the Forester and Outback tend to be pretty conservative. It is a winning formula and they did a pretty big overhaul in the late 20teens of their interior and standard features. I wouldn't expect something revolutionary any time soon but that's just my 2 cents.

The outback doesn't have any features that the Forester doesn't.
Forester still has physical AC controls and seat heater controls that are much easier to use. Plus Forester has the top center display for eyesight, tilt/incline, that is missing from outback.
Also outlook due for refresh next year 2023, new eyesight system, and facelift with headlamps and such. Rest of world already has.

This is what I was going to say. The huge screen looks nice, but damn it's hard to use if you're not staring directly at it. Physical buttons are far superior.

That’s interesting how many people mention how bad the screen is. Glad to know, looks like Subaru still has a lot of upgrades tech wise. Thanks for the input!
