The user tells me that when they remote into the PC it does not accept the same password he uses for his PC but instead a variation of it he has used before.
That means there is a sync issue, somewhere. An old password should not allow access. Check the Credential Manager on the remote PC and remove any outdated stuff. Also, have the user log out of the remote machine and log back in to ensure it syncs correctly with the domain.

I have a Server 2012 R2 with Remote Desktop installed.
I'm confused about this... you said it's a Windows 10 machine connected to a Windows 7 machine. How is Server 2012 involved?

This was the first time he tried to remote in with his laptop.
Also I provided the server information to provide more detail on the network setup.

That's very strange, then.... an old password should not allow access. Maybe on the work machine he's got an issue? Maybe it's been a long time since he logged out, which can cause some odd sync issues.

I have 2 Windows10 machines running on Hyperv 2016 with a K1 graphics card providing a GPU to each machine. I also have another Windows 10 machine on the same hardware that does not present the symptoms below
When I remote desktop to either of the two machines, a new session is started on the machine instead of reconnecting to the disconnected session. The existing session is shown as disconnected but is still running as it locks files that may be open on the original session.
Qwinsta shows the previous sessions are disconnected.
Group policy is set to only allow 1 simultaneous connection to the device. All machines see this group policy setting in gpresult [and it's temporarily configured at the root of the domain].
All 3 machines are in the same OU and have the same AV running.
Disconnect timeout is set to 6 hours which allows someone to disconnect, go to a half day meeting, get home and continue their work [in theory]
The two that fail to reconnect to the original session are running Windows 10.0 16299, the good machine is running 15063. I'm not sure yet if it's the Windows version that is the problem -
I'm curious if anyone has the same issue that hopefully they were able to fix or can reproduce the issue. Any hints on the logs to look at would be helpful too.
Access to these machines is normally through a Remote Gateway server but I get the same issue locally so that should rule out the Remote Gateway server from being the problem.

Seems to be a duplicate issue to//social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/155f9891-f001-48de-8c72-c1e3c81cfb20/windows-10-1709-does-not-reconnect-to-disconnected-rdp-sessions which I found with hindsight.
I'm attempting a Windows update on my 1703 build 15063.1029 install tonight and will then see if the issue occurs after being patched.
