Desktop mode Chrome Android

Chrome for Android has long offered the option to manually enable desktop mode for your websites. Soon, this option will be enabled by default on most large-sized Android tablets.

What Is Chrome's Desktop Mode?

By default, Chrome for Android opens the mobile-optimized versions of your websites. This is to ensure the sites look good on your mobile devices.

However, you do get an optional feature called desktop mode in Chrome. This mode lets you load the actual desktop versions of your sites. If there's a feature missing in the mobile version, or if you just want to see how the desktop site looks like, this feature lets you do that.

What Android Tablets Will Get This Feature?

According to a source code on Chromium Gerrit, tablets that have a "large enough" screen will default to using the desktop mode in Chrome. It's not yet clear what "large enough" means, but it's speculated that it'll be something related to the resolution of the device screens.

It's likely you'll see this feature on large tablets, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.

How to Manually Enable the Desktop Mode in Chrome

If you already use Chrome on an Android tablet, you can manually enable the desktop mode to view your websites' desktop versions. This is exactly what the new feature is going to do, but automatically instead of manually.

To use the desktop mode in Chrome, open a website in Chrome on your tablet, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, and tick Desktop site. Your site will reload and you should see the desktop version of the site.

WhenWill Chrome's Default Desktop Mode Feature Arrive for Android?

The exact time-frame for when this feature will arrive isn't known, yet. However, since the feature has been seen in a source code, it's highly likely you'll see it in the next versions of this browser.

To be sure you get to use the feature as soon as it arrives, keep the Chrome app updated on your Android device. You can even enable automatic updates so you don't manually need to do anything.

View Desktop Versions of Websites by Default on Android

Many large-sized Android tablets are as good for web browsing as desktop computers. With Chrome for Android soon letting you use the desktop mode by default, you won't have to manually tick the Desktop site option on your tablets anymore.

Chrome has a lot to offer to its users, and you should take some time to learn Chrome's varioususes to get the most out of this browser.
