best amplifier in 1500+ euro range , for only 500 eur:] better what gustard a20h. im using it with HD800S headphones +balanced cable

awesome combo !!! no need for tube amps... this amplifier delivers smooth midrange, clear highs, bass a little weak, boot acceptable, and 3D soundstage is very good. My best invested 500 euros :]

The Topping RC21 is a remote control that is compatible with Topping DX7s, D70, DX3 Pro, and the D50s. It uses a CR2032 battery and lets you control the DAC or amps from the comfort of your seat.

  • Compatible with Topping DX7s, D70, DX3 Pro, D50s
  • Uses CR2032 battery

If anyone has a Topping DX7 and has no use for the remote, I would love to buy the remote control. I have the Topping DX7s and it does not come with a remote. I contacted Topping about buying a remote separately and they said there is no demand for it, so they discontinued it to keep the price low and may sell it separately later.

Thanks

There are programmable remote controls available. What remote functions do you need? Volume? Input switching? My TV remote can turn on/off my power hungry amplifiers, adjust the volume on the preamp, and turn on/off the HDRadio, as well as control the TV and Cable box.

Anything else I go to the gear or choose the proper remote from the dump.

Primarily volume and mute. I don't switch inputs too often and don't mind walking over for that.

OK, so stupid question - how do I program a universal remote to work with the DAC? Do I need a code from Topping?

You either need the code or have to put the universal programmer in "learning mode" which obviously requires having the unit.

Since I have the remote, I may be able to help with the later. Maybe I can buy the universal remote, program it and send it to you? The "hex" code can be captured and sent to people but I am not sure cheap universal programmers have this kind of programmability.

My miniDSP has remote capability, but no remote came with it. It takes the opposite stance, and learns codes that the remote sends to it. [I didn't send any code, it timed out]

The DAC is the only thing in the living room that needs a remote, so any suggestions for a good, simple, cheap universal remote? The Logitech Harmony would be major overkill.

@amirm Are you able to skip tracks and/or pause/resume with the DX7 remote when playing music with Roon via USB? That would be a very handy feature. There are usually one or two tracks in an album I'd rather not listen to.

EDIT: I've sent an email to Topping asking for the code.

Thanks for the offer, Amir. Let me wait for Topping to get back to me on the code first. I will try it out on my Comcast cable remote [which is programmable] first and if that works, any universal remote should work I think.

Received the hex codes from Topping. I've ordered this UR from Amazon. The manual has 4 digit integer codes like 0093 for a lot of equipment. Do I just convert the hex values below to integers, pad with zeroes and I am good? I feel so ancient, but the only universal remote I have used was a cool learning remote that came with a Yahama receiver I don't have anymore - you just point another remote at it, press the buttons and it had an IR receiver that would learn with the input signals. Pretty neat but you needed the source remote for this functionality. Unfortunately not. You need a programmable remote that connects to a computer, allowing you to send it those "hex" codecs. They are NOT the single number identifier as you see in that manual. You need a fancier remote with a USB/computer interface and software to download them like the logitech Harmony mentioned above.

Thanks. Ordered this one. They have an option for $100 extra for "With expert setup". Wonder if I should get that too

My bad for not researching ahead of time, but I just made an assumption that the Logitech Harmony app would allow me to manually enter the hex codes, but it does not. Interestingly, the SMSL AD18 is already in their database.

@astr0b0y did you submit the codes to logitech already?

Why not just try an inexpensive remote first like Ray mentioned. They usually have a code step through mode where you point it at the turned on device and keep hitting power until it goes off. If / when it finds it [turns off] the other functions you need will probable work. There is often some uniformity in code format grouping that manufactures use. I noticed you did order a cheap RCA, that has a step through mode, it might work try it. You might not get all functions, but power on/off, volume might work. Others might work also but might not be well defined on the remote buttons. Worth a try for $7.

The cheap RCA is DOA. Will order a replacement and see how that goes. I like how simple it is. The Logitech has far too many buttons and is not backlit which was another mistake on my part.

That sucks. Hopefully when you get the replacement it will pick up some functions. What do you really want to work? I would be happy if the volume up and down worked.

My Cable Box Remote... I blindly stepped through the codes [many steps], stopped when it turned the amplifier on/off. As a bonus it changes the volume on the preamp. That's all I wanted out of it. I have no idea if any other functions happen to work, but I have a "real" remote to access them. --- Turns out Krell is listed as a choice, with three device entries:

That's cool. Even though it is not listed it still might work as sometimes small manufactures will use the same codes as a well known brand. Like a no name TV might work with LG or Samsung codes etc. Can't hurt to try.

Logitech say they have added the DX7s to their database. This is the message I received.

Thank you for replying with the required information. Based on your feedback, we have added your model in our database. I’d recommend you to add the device in the following format to your account to check if that works as expected. Manufacturer: Toppings Model: DX7s

I won’t be getting mine for a few weeks yet, so anyone with a DX7 or DX7s and Harmony should be able to add the DAC and incorporate it into your activities.

Thank you! Unfortunately, the Harmony PC software is crap. Syncing keeps failing at 99%. I worked around this earlier by switching to a different USB port, but its back now. This issue has been reported by many users online and Logitech doesn't even bother responding. There was one ridiculous workaround found by users where you keep tapping on the OK button repeatedly during sync but that didn't work for me either.

Monoprice HTP-1 => LCR: JBL708P + [Rythmik FM8 x2] + Rythmik F12, Surrounds: JBL Stage A130

That’s very annoying! I haven’t had that issue myself and have owned 4 Harmony remotes over the last 10 years. One thing that does seem to make things go wrong with the current iteration of software is the reliance on Microsoft Silverlight as a subsystem. If the version of Silverlight installed on your system is old, try updating that to the latest version and see if it helps with the hanging update.

I've had problems with it being very fussy about which usb cable works.

The software is crap, always has been, but they find ways to make it worse every few years.

Syncing keeps failing at 99%

Did you try it to see if it works with the DAC? Software: Are we done here? Remote: Yes Software: What? Remote: Yes

Agreed, not a great user experience. However, I must be used to it by now as I was able to add the DX7s pretty easily. Just need to DAC now...

Finally got it to work and configured it to switch sources etc. Had to try different USB ports till it finally worked.

Thanks all for the responses. For $23, this is a decent deal now that I got it to work.

Great news, @stunta
Do all the functions work as labelled?

Wow awesome! I might buy a harmony just to control all the devices in my room if it also supports the DX7 now lol

I just ordered a new Dx7 of Alliexpress for $339 and was wondering which Logitech remote works with these units 350 0r 650 ? So do you go a Logitech to download the HEx codes ? Still confused after reading the thread.

Thanks for your assistance since would nice to be able to power it on and off and adjust the remote volume setting.

The ad photos didn't show the remote. I hope they won't say we don't have the DX7 . IF they pull that then the should give me the DX7s for that great price. I changed mine an went back in on the THX drop since I heard this cruit on HD 8oo's and several other headphones at RMAF this past year nad like what I heard.

Page 3

Yes that was me but the seller was Shenzhen something via Newegg . I would be very surprised if you get a DX7.

I posted an amazon link earlier for the remote. Either Logitech remote should work I think.

How can you capture codes with an IR USB device? Is there a program to do it? I have an IR capture device for my HTPC and I have a DX7 w/ remote obviously. I will do it for you if you can give me a software that can raw read the IR receiver.

If your HTPC has a receiver and not just a blaster, you might be able to find a program that can access it. Most of the recommendations I'm seeing are to grab an Arduino and use that, but I'm betting that setup is non-trivial also. I'd think that if you had an IR-receiver and an oscilloscope, you could get the raw I/O stream, which is easy to convert using any of a number of websites out there.

FYI, Topping service did provide the attached C files, which I assume are the sections of CPLD code that control the IR inputs. I could not distinguish the protocol from these, but perhaps one of the more experienced members of the forum could. I did make a half-hearted attempt to translate the Chinese characters in the IR.c file header lines.

Yes, the code is quite simple and readable even for a non-programmer like me. But those bytecodes are transformed by the IR chipset into pulses, and if we knew the protocol, then we could use them. NEC is the most common protocol, but I tested against that protocol with no success.

That's what I figured because I doubt it could just send "bytes" as there has to be a protocol to send said bytes with.
I'm not familiar with how IR works, so I imagine it would be some binary pulses of some sort, maybe similar to garage door openers.

Can you tell me what battery DX7s use? I don't know which battery I should buy.

Thanks.

Greetings everyone! I'm new here. My name is Carlos. It's about 1 week that I got my Dx7s and I'm in love with it! I've being reading about the remote as I don't have one and just discovered that I can record remotes with my Phone and use it as a remote.

The thing is. Does anyone here with the Dx7s remote have a Huawei Phone that can record remotes? For example, the Mate 20 Pro. Maybe the recorded remote bytes could be shared to other Huawei users?

The Huawei software is limited to a few templates. I see this template have all the required buttons:

Hey everyone,
Using the irplus app [ great remote controller for android] , a trusty HTC one M7 [used as an IR reader] and the actual dx7s remote, I was able to make a fully functional dx7s remote for my phone. In-case any one is still looking I'm adding the remote i made. Inside the the zip container you will find a .lircplus file which you can easily import from inside irplus app. If you just need "raw" code you can open the .lircplus file with any txt editor and copy from there.

Hope this helps

It works daniel_l thank you!
