Hello everyone,

I have a requirement to purchase remote access software that works without internet (over LAN only)...The tricky parts is that it has to be setup in a way where the users connecting to the host pc can ONLY VIEW a single Window (IE a WORD DOCUMENT that is open) and not any other open windows that may be open on that host pc. Does such remote access software exist? Any recommendation will be appreciated.

Additionally the users connecting to the host pc should be required to enter a password before viewing access is granted.

Thank You

Changing this from application window sharing to monitor sharing opens up a whole host of options for you. Most screen sharing solutions will allow you to share only one monitor.

VNC Enterprise would be a good fit - on network connections, authentication using AD credentials, configurable permissions (including view only) and configurable monitor remoting.

PM me if a licence key for testing purposes would be useful.

NetAdminWorld is an IT service provider.

RDP came to mind until you listed the other requirements. I know of such software that can match those requirements, but I could be wrong.

Step back a bit.

Folks around here tend to view remote control software as an administrative support tool or as a remote work utility - both of which require normal access to the remote session. Why do you want to do this? What is driving these requirements?

Remote Utilities meets all requirements except the single window requirement. We have this on our roadmap.

Goverlan remote control works very well in the LAN environment with a free and paid version.

I don't know if it meets all of your requirements, but you may want to look into webex that can get a lot more granular about what part of the session is presented. I hope this helps.

Thanks guys I will explain a little better....We have a computer that is hosting a program that has multiple windows, so ...every time that program is running, multiple windows are open.....We want users to be able to connect remotely at any time and see ONLY one of those windows (just like a webex session where you can only select/share certain windows). The reason for this is that when a user connects remotely a local employee could be working on other apps on that host computer ....we do not want the remote users to see that. With WebEx when you share a window you can have other windows on top of it and the viewers will still only see the window that is being shared.

Splashtop Enterprise can work on-premise, without connectivity to Internet.

However, limiting to a specific Windows require a little customization. Can you share the # of users you are targeting? We could make the customization based on the business opportunity.

Viper One with Team Viewer unfortunately when connecting I would see the entire desktop. You cant limit the sharing to a single window :(

Additionally the single window that is being shared should be READ only...users should not be able to manipulate

You can with Teamviewer.

You can lock TV with Password on each host so you won't be able to access any machine without password and if you want someone to connect to a shared window you can host a meeting and in there the person hosting meeting can select the window/app they want to share. Additionally meeting ID changes every time so to connect you have to get the new details. With the meeting option you can only see the shared screen and that's it - unless granted access.

Wait. Stop.

You'll want to back up a rethink this. If nothing else, you'll need to verify the Microsoft licensing for what you're looking to achieve. Using a workstation to host what amounts to Remote Apps runs into all kinds of oddities. Why not simply configure the app to run on a Remote Desktop Server where each user has their own instance?

You could do it with a TurboMeeting session, but you'd have to have the Word application visible on a 2nd monitor and share either the 2nd monitor or share the Word document. If it needs to be truly view-only (ie: no scrolling), then start an "Interactive" meeting. You can put a password on your meeting, and you can say that you "Only [want] attendees from my network" to join. Our web site offers a free trialweb site offers a free trial. The "Only..from my network" won't work there, but PM me and I can set you up with an unlimited trial where it will work.
