Lovers of the V6 engine, rejoice! The Toyota Camry TRD [Toyota Racing Development] returns for 2023. While other models in the
2023 Toyota Camry lineup also offer the 301-horsepower V6 engine, only the TRD model is designed for performance above and beyond the typical midsize family sedan. Read on to explore the new model, and see if the 2023 Camry TRD is right for you. RELATED: 5 Things to Know About
the New 2023 Toyota Camry Midsize Sedan Praise be, there will be a high-performance variant of the standard Camry available for the 2023 model year. The 2023 Camry TRD will offer many or all of the same performance features that we saw in last year’s model. These include TRD-tuned shocks, thicker underbody braces, and coil springs unique to the Camry TRD model. This eye-catching model will also offer sharp exterior styling specific to this model, like
19-inch TRD wheels and a flashy cat-back dual exhaust. Will there be a 2023 Camry TRD?
The 2023 Toyota Camry TRD will not be redesigned
While we hoped for a 2023 Camry redesign—and particularly a Camry TRD redesign—no such makeover happened this year.
The 2023 Camry TRD is likely to offer all of the same features, options, and styling as last year’s model. Fortunately, the 2022 Camry TRD was a pretty spectacular offering, so this isn’t a terrible thing.
This high-performance Camry is one of the last midsize family sedans to offer such a powerful V6 engine, and its good looks carry over for the new model year. We haven’t given up on hoping for a full refresh and redesign for 2024, though. Fingers crossed for even more horsepower.
2023 Toyota Camry TRD release date, pricing, specs, and features
We don’t yet have exact details for the 2023 Camry TRD price. However, we can assume that, with so few changes from 2022 to 2023, the new Camry TRD will cost about what last year’s model did. Expect the new Camry TRD to start around $33,000-$34,000.
Kelley Blue Book seems less-than-impressed with the interior features available in the latest Camry TRD:
“The TRD model comes exclusively with the V6 and — goodness knows why — single-zone climate control again. It also reverts to simulated leather, but this time with red stitching. The front passenger goes back to having a manually adjustable seat. The rearview mirror loses its self-dimming ability. And the infotainment system shrinks to a 7-incher.”
-Kelley Blue Book
We expect the 2023 Camry TRD to go on sale in fall 2022 and be a tough competitor to the all-new 2023 Honda Accord.
Is the new Camry TRD AWD?
Unfortunately, the 2023 Camry TRD does not offer all-wheel drive. Toyota’s 3.5-liter V6 engine runs only with a front-wheel drivetrain. I’m not entirely sure why Toyota would offer available all-wheel drive on its premier commuting sedan, but limit that capability and handling prowess to only the four-cylinder models.
Currently, the TRD sedan is available only with front-wheel drive. Maybe with the [hopeful] 2024 Camry redesign, we’ll see a Toyota Camry TRD AWD model.
Is there a Toyota Camry TRD Nightshade Edition?
While Toyota did roll out new colors for the 2023 Camry Nightshade Edition, this special-edition exterior package will not be available on the V6 TRD model.
For 2023, the Toyota Nightshade Edition package will only be available in SE FWD, AWD, and Hybrid models.
If you’ve been waiting for the 2023 Camry TRD expecting any big changes or improvements, you’ll be glad to know that there will be a new model. But, you’re better served just buying a 2022 model and likely saving a bit of money.
